 | 206 7th Avenue House Fire
|
| | | 206 7th Avenue House Fire
On Tuesday July 29, 2008 at 09:00 hrs Box 5-1 was sounded for the house on fire with reported burn patients at 206 Seventh Avenue in downtown Brunswick. First arriving unit, A198 reported a two story single family dwelling with heavy fire showing and two patients in the street. Assistant Chief 5-1 Wade Watson marked on the scene and established 7th Avenue command. The first alarm units were positioned to protect the Bravo and Delta exposures and a defensive attack was ordered. A198 and A199 along with M2 and M31 handled the care and transport of the victims who were both flown by Trooper 3 to the Washington burn center. Due to the high heat and humidity, a second alarm was sounded for additional personnel along with a later request for three additional engine companies. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in approximately 30 minutes but the unstable walls made interior overhaul unsafe and impossible. Crews operated ladder pipes on Q14 and Jefferson Co. T2 along with several hand lines for about six hours after the fire was knocked down. Because of the severity of the burn injuries to the victims, the State Fire Marshal needed access to the first floor for the investigation. A private contractor was called in with a crane to remove the unstable walls and roof. Final mop-up was completed and the last unit E51 cleared the scene at 18:42.

| | | Vehicle Accident Souder Road and North Maple Avenue 5/26/08
At 10:34 hours on Monday 5/26/08 Companies 5 and 19 were dispatched for a vehicle accident at Souder Road and North Maple Avenue. Once units arrived on the scene they found a two vehicle collision between a small sedan and a small pick up truck. The driver of the sedan was out of her vehicle, however the gentleman in the pick up truck was still in his, and the drivers door had to be popped to get him out. The call was upgraded to ALS due to one of the patients having chest pains. Company 19 transported one patient and Loudoun County ambulance 121 transported the other one. Evidently the pick up was traveling east on Souder Road and the sedan West on Souder Road when the sedan made a left hand turn on to North Maple Avenue turning in front of the pick up which caused the collision to occur.
